LOCAL
LOUDSPEAKERS
where are you all.....?
Once being an efficient way of spreading local information, but in today’s real-time, local loudspeakers are gradually disappearing in inner Hanoi, only lingering in rural areas such as Ba Vi district and further to other cities.

Linger a little...
Let the loudspeaker lull you into memory
The familiar loudspeaker echoes, leading us back to old memories where every sound still stirs the heart.

The speakers’ sound in the city is on the wane
Nowadays, in many districts of Ha Noi, loudspeakers are only echoes of the past. The places that used to be immersed in the speaker’s sounds, now only feature them as the silent artifacts.

They are especially active at national special events.
Further to suburban districts, closer to the sound
Coming to Hong Minh Commune, Phu Xuyen District, where the loudspeakers still operate twice a day.

Tran Thi Hoi - A local resident
"I have been accustomed to this sound for several decades, and I’ve never found it annoying. It will be wonderful if the local authorities preserve it for future generations."

“Tieng trong hoc bai”
A unique way reminding students

Stay a bit longer...
This is the common sound broadcast through the loudspeaker system at every 7:00 p.m. in Ba Vi District as a signal for not only students, but everyone to start their evening self-studying.
City's escape, where sound takes shape
Moving further to other cities all around the countries, the loudspeakers are not just a medium of information, but a reminder of shared rhythms, of community presence, of stories still told in the open air.

"Some households don't have Internet, or many elderly residents don't use smartphones, for them, the commune loudspeaker is the only available channel."
Dinh Van Bon - A local officer

According to Plan No. 200 on implementing the Strategy for Grassroots Information Development for the 2022–2025 period, approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the city aims to build a modern digital broadcasting network covering all hamlets, residential groups, and neighborhoods by 2025. This system will completely replace the traditional loudspeaker broadcasting system.
